Form: "Be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit."
Matter:
Chrism Oil- symbolizes that when the cross is drawn on the forehead of the recipient they must openly profess their faith.
Imposing Hands- hands are placed on recipient and prayer is said
Minister: normally administered by a Bishop but when necessary, the Bishop can also delegate a Priest to do it.
Rite:
First the presentation of the candidate takes place. During this time, the names of everybody to be confirmed are read out. Each candidate stands up so everyone can see and then goes to the Bishop at the front. Next, the Renewal of Baptismal Promises happens. Each candidate is asked questions about what they believe. They promise to reject evil. These promises are like an enrollment in to the Catholic Church. Following the Renewal of Baptismal Promises, The Imposing of Hands occurs. The Bishop lays his hands on each of the candidates. This is to show them that they have the special job of living like Jesus would want and showing other people how to do the same. The hands are a symbol of the power and strength that will come to them through the Holy Spirit. Lastly, The candidates are anointed with Chrism. The Bishop says the candidate's confirmation name while drawing the sign of the cross on the forehead with the oil of chrism. This oil is an ancient sign of being chosen by God. It is also used in baptism. The sign of the cross shows that the candidate is a child of God. Oil can be used to heal or to give strength.

My Sponsor: Anna Gertrude Walsh (Nana)
I chose my Nana to be my sponsor because she is one of my role models and a devote Catholic. My Nana lives in Ireland so her making the trip was very special. I knew that my Nana would be a great sponsor because she is very close with God. She goes to Church every morning and says her prayers every night. I knew that if I chose her she would lead me in the right path faith wise.

Confirmation Name: Meaghan
I chose the confirmation name of Meaghan for one reason and one reason alone and that is to honor my sister. My sister died when she was a baby and it really impacted my family. Even though I never met Meghan I always felt a connection to her. When it came time to pick my Confirmation name I felt like her name was the right fit. Now my name is Shannon Anna Meaghan Shea.
